Poppy Khan had a hefty budget spent by Heavygame.biz not including a Birthday Mixer sponsored by Go Realla Grind for his new single "Life Up" featuring Suga B and Danky Ducksta. Right now its looking like a big L for the company. First couple of weeks sale projections are in and Poppy Khan "Life Up" single only sold 653 paid downloads its first few weeks. The single streams have not been calculated as of yet. The soon to be former CEO of Music, Oakdale Boonce is telling us that he strongly feels the single will continue to grow over time.
"When you're independent you can't expect to see the money spent on making a new project as fast as the majors would" he explained. "It takes 12 months or longer sometime to grow a record and recoup the initial investment operating independently and that's with having a solid team grinding in unison," he relates. "I personally love "Life Up" it's a dope joint and a lot of listeners who have had the opportunity to hear it they love it too. I'm always stressing to members of our team not to pay attention to the number of followers or likes you have, but pay more attention to the supporters in your social media communities. These are individuals who are sharing and purchasing your services and products" he said excitingly. "It is still a head scratcher for me to see a person with let's say 3500 followers and maybe 1200 are close friends, associates and relatives and the individual don't get 1200 downloads or even 1200 shares on the first day of the release of a 'Grade A' quality project" shrugging his shoulders as he talks. "Now I'm fully aware that not all of your family, friends and associates are going to like what you have to offer, but they don't know how many of their 3500 or so followers that might just love what you have to offer and it don't cost a dime to share content on social media. But I always stress to the team not to dwell on that fact either, but it's just mind boggling to me." He went on to say that he's not worried about the slow start of the new single and he believes "Life Up" will put up great download and streaming numbers independently when it's all said and done.
The new "Life Up" video is gaining traction on YouTube. Uploaded 15 days ago the video has close to 3,500 views. Poppy Khan told us that they still had a lot of grinding ahead of them. " I know "Life Up" is going to work and our job is to make it work. My old man told me a long time ago that it's all about patients and when you're independent you just gotta continue to share your projects to get 'em out there and allow the listener to make their decision" he explained. "I swear it's a different feeling when you're investing in yourself putting up your own money and receiving the returns from projects that are like one or two years old. You're so much on your Go Realla Grind that you might of forgot about 'em" he said with a Cheshire Cat grin while starring at the floor. "But it ain't gone happen over night we're independent you gotta keep grinding the project!"
